Getting Started
A link to the listing, or the 17-character VIN. That is the entire requirement. You do not need the seller's details, the paperwork, or anything from the vehicle itself.
Yes, and it is the most common way people start. Paste the listing link and CaptainWorth reads it as written — including what the listing does not say. Craigslist and dealer listings work the same way.
No. The report is written for someone who does not, and it says why each thing matters rather than assuming you already know. If you can follow a checklist and read a sentence out loud to a seller, you have everything you need.
CaptainWorth tells you that, rather than filling the gap. You get what is known, what is missing, and what would close it. Where the evidence is too thin to support a defensible read, it declines to produce one — which is a more useful answer than a confident guess.
Used passenger vehicles and light trucks in the United States at launch.

The Captain's Report
No, and it is not trying to. CaptainWorth tells you whether a vehicle is worth paying a mechanic to look at — and exactly what to have them look at when they do. On a vehicle you are serious about, the two work together: the report tells you where to point the inspection.
From real comparable listings of the same vehicle in your market, adjusted for mileage, trim and options, condition, and region — with every adjustment shown. It is a range rather than a single figure because the evidence supports a range, and the comparables it came from are listed so you can check them.
Because a single number would be more precise than the evidence. Two identical vehicles a few miles apart can sell for several hundred dollars apart, and a range tells you the truth about that. Where the evidence is unusually strong, the range narrows on its own.
A single read on the deal, from 0 to 100, built from price position, condition signals, market demand, verification and risk, ownership cost, and how well the vehicle fits what you are looking for. The factors that moved it are always shown.
Pursue means the evidence supports going ahead at the right number. Pursue with Conditions means it is worth pursuing once named things are confirmed. Caution means there are questions that would change the decision if answered badly. Pass means the evidence points away from the vehicle.
Because a percentage implies a precision the evidence does not support. High, Moderate, and Low are stated with the specific reasons behind them, so you can see what would move the band rather than being handed a number to trust.
Yes. A report can be shared as a read-only link. The recipient does not need an account, personal details are redacted, the link expires, and you can revoke it at any time.
Yes. Running it again creates a new version, and the earlier one stays intact, so the read you acted on is still there afterwards.
Pricing and Billing
The Free Quick Check gives you the signal, an approximate value band, a high-level confidence level, and the biggest factor driving it — enough to decide whether a vehicle is worth more of your time. The full Captain's Report adds the detailed comparables, the inspection checklist, the seller questions, the negotiation plan, Parking Lot Mode, sharing, permanent storage, and unlimited follow-up questions on that vehicle.
No. Report packs do not expire. Buy three and use the third one next year if that is when you need it.
Yes, without limit, on any vehicle you have a full report for. Answers are grounded in what the report actually found rather than composed freshly each time.
Yes. That is what Parking Lot Mode is for, and it works offline, because the lot usually has no signal.
In the app, through the app store. There is no checkout on this website.
Multiple active reports, advanced compare mode, saved history, and priority support. It is the value choice during an active search — and you should cancel it when you have bought.
Refunds are handled through the app store you purchased from, under its policy. If something went wrong with a report, contact us and we will look at it.
Parking Lot Mode
It turns your Captain's Report into a guided walkthrough for the vehicle in front of you — exterior, tyres, glass, lights, interior, electronics, engine bay, startup, idle, test drive, and paperwork. You mark each item, log what you find, and your Target Offer stays accurate as the real condition comes into focus.
Yes. Everything you log is saved on the device and syncs when you have a connection again.
If you log a safety-critical finding, Parking Lot Mode stops adjusting the number and routes you to a professional inspection instead. There is a point past which a checklist is the wrong tool.
Mark it Not Checked. It stays visible in the report rather than being recorded as clear, because a gap you know about is worth more than a tick you did not earn.
Data and Privacy
Very little. What you type into the box on the homepage is used to carry the vehicle into the app and is not stored on our servers. The contact form collects only what is needed to reply. Analytics load only if you accept them.
No. We do not sell, license, or broker visitor data, and we do not run advertising. Your data exists to serve your decision, and for no other purpose.
Yes, from the privacy policy page, at any time.
Troubleshooting
Copy the link again from the listing rather than from a share sheet, since some share links are shortened in a way that hides the item. If it still does not work, enter the VIN instead.
It is on a plate at the base of the windscreen on the driver's side, on the driver's door frame, and on the registration documents. It is 17 characters and never contains the letters I, O, or Q.
Every figure shows what produced it, so start there — the comparables, the adjustments, and the signals are all listed. If the evidence behind a figure looks wrong, tell us and we will look at it.
Then the report did its job. Walking away from a vehicle that was not worth it is a successful outcome, and it is the one this product is most often useful for.
They are illustrative of a sample vehicle, and the page says so. They show what a complete report looks like rather than making a claim about any real vehicle or outcome.
Still stuck?
Send us the question and we will answer it. A link to the vehicle helps, but is not required.
